Why be a vegetarian

Why be a vegetarian ? This is a very common question which has been asked thousands of times by thousands of hundred of people in today's world. Many answers and opinions by many different masters with one very common identity , which is known as the universal loving compassion towards all sentient beings.

As quoted  by His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, and his explanation and wisdom words for being a vegetarian. Not only will you practice compassion for all sentient beings, but you will decrease the resources you used up. It takes about 100,000 liters of water to produce 1 kilogram of beef but only 750 liters of water to produce 1 kilogram of wheat.

Buddha, Who are You ?

When someone asked the Sakyamurni Buddha, who are you ? are you the all almighty God of the universe?

Gautama, the person who became the historical Buddha of our time, He replied with his smiles, " No I am not the god"

The person asked if you are not the all almighty God then what are you?  The Lord Buddha again replied with his smiles, " I am the awaken"

Who is your enemy

Our anger is our actual enemy. It is an obstacle that cuts us off from the cause of higher states of rebirth and the definitive excellence that is liberation.

If we do not tame it, then outer enemies will simply multiply. They will increase to the same extent that we try to overpower them. And they could present a danger to our lives and to our ability to keep any of the three sets of vows (individual liberation, bodhisattva, and tantric) we may have taken.

We are the ones who make one another into enemies, they can proliferate without limit. By creating such projections, we are engaging in actions that are detrimental. Why is this so? Because there is not one living being who has not been our mother or father, and therefore they should all be the objects if our compassion.

On the other hand, there is not one living being who has not been our enemy. In this way, all living beings are equally our friends and enemies, so being attached to some and feeling hatred for others makes no sense.

Through a mind that sees this equality, we should tame the enemy of our own anger with an army of great compassion. This is the practice of a true bodhisattva.

Quated by His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa.

A wisdom vs unconditional loves

A snake was injured by it's predictor and lying motionless on the ground. A compassionate young man he saw it and picks the snake up and brought it home to feed and nurtured him with his loving kindness and compassion as this is an unconditional universal love towards all living beings.

Day by day gone, the snake gets it back and growing to a full state of good health. The young man seems to be very happy and honored for what has done for a good deed and good meritorious karma by rescuing and nurturing the snake.

Unfortunately, one day the snake bites him and injecting its deadly venom to the one who has saved its life. The young Samaritan man was completely horrified and in pain, and his body internal organs are beginning to shut down and the poor young man is very helpless and he is dies soon. The dying young man asked the snake with his final words, " my dear snake, why are you doing this to me ?

Can't you see how much I have been taking care and nurturing you? When you were injured, no one has come to rescue you but it was me , why you are still treating and biting me ? The snake replied to the dying young man, " you know very well, I was a venomous snake when you picked me up, and you know you are responsible for your owned actions, and I am merely a snake and bites and injections of venomous poison is my nature and instinct"

This story and morals are telling us when someone's ignorance and egoistic and without wisdom , it doesn't help even though with your unconditional loves and loving compassion and bodhichitta kindness.
